Michigan COIVD-19 metrics continue to improve. Tuesday’s positivity rate was 6.45%, down slightly from last week—even with the average daily number of tests up 11,900 over last week. Also, last week’s 7-day average for daily cases was 2,350, and this week we’re sitting at 1,653 so far. All other metrics are showing similar positive trends; for example, hospitalizations dropped 12% in a week and are now 52% lower than their peak on December 1.

Michigan Vaccinations

About 5.4% of Michiganders have received at least their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. That number is up from 3.2% last week. Although the vaccination rollout is going slower than many hoped, the state is prepared to ramp up daily vaccinations as they receive more doses. Michigan is currently in Phase 1B of the vaccination timeline. This group includes those age 65 and older, frontline essential workers, child care and Pre-K through 12 school staff, and congregate care facilities.

Staying Vigilant

With everything moving in the right direction, it’s important to remember that we all have to stay vigilant about wearing masks, washing our hands, and social distancing whenever possible.  To keep visitors and our essential staff safe, we still require everyone to complete a health screening, with temperature, as they enter the building; non-essential staff also continue to work from home whenever possible.
