Well, local media sources were mostly right. As of today, Michigan gyms, bowling alleys, and ice rinks are allowed to be open … with restrictions, of course. Unfortunately for movie theaters and performance venues, Governor Whitmer’s latest executive order didn’t mention when they will be allowed to open. But, in an unexpected move, Governor Whitmer did allow high school and other organized sports to resume.

Since September 1, the state’s average positivity rate is holding steady at 3.3%. That appears to be good news considering kids are back in school – both K-12 and college – with many districts and colleges/universities offering at least some in-person instruction. This graph from the Michigan.gov/Coronavirus website confirms that Michiganders have taken the virus seriously.
